On hot days, VAST generates power more efficiently.
Constant Power on Hot Days
During heat waves, VASTIG™ generates higher power more efficiently than Brayton Cycle turbines.
At 60 bar, VASTIG can sustain power and ultra-low emissions independent of temperature – from the arctic to the desert. Lower pressures reduce power and efficiency while higher pressures increase both. These provide strong advantages over the markedly reduced power and efficiency of both Brayton and Combined Cycle gas turbines in hotter temperatures. VASTIG provides increasing advantages as operating pressure rises from10 toward 80 bar.
Sustained power gains do reduce efficiency because more fuel is being consumed per unit of net power delivered, thereby creating a higher heat rate and lower efficiency. However, this cost is more than offset by the premium prices paid for dispatchable power during heat waves. Being able to deliver more power on the hot days more than offsets the higher heat rate and consequent lower efficiency incurred to gain this advantage.
